This is Kettle. For this project I chose to challenge myself to design and engineer an inexpensive kettle.
More specifically, I chose to redesign an existing Amazon Basics Kettle and see if I could make it look better, but cost the same.
Some of my biggest inspirations for this project were existing kettles, specifically ones that were defined more by their shape than their materials. In home goods design, materials are vital to a products perceived value, but for this project I removed that as an option.
I also found inspiration in both stationary consumer electronics such as home assistants and computers, because they perform a similar function when not in use - nothing. In addition, I found the form factor of game controllers very interesting because they require constant use and therefore are quite ergonomic.
Initial random thoughts
Some ideation. At this point I'm trying to just come up with some ideas, but also keep in mind that I want this to have few parts, low tooling costs, simple assembly, etc.
Disc not ejected properly.
The handle feels great, but looks a bit small. I'm still making further refinements.
